Communications Engineering

Centurum provides full-spectrum support for military and commercial shipboard and shore-based terrestrial and satellite communications systems for the Navy and Coast Guard. We develop requirements; develop and implement Configuration Management Plans and support configuration audits; maintain and operate the RF Integrated Electronics Lab (RIEL); and provide bench, pre-, and post-installation test support.

Our Communications Engineering Support Services experience includes:

  • Completing shore-based and shipboard site surveys and Optical Blockage Surveys (OBSs).
  • Designing and fabricating communications suites, antenna foundations and barbettes, and test fixtures.
  • Installing, integrating, tearing down, and de-installing shore-based and shipboard line-of-sight and satellite communications systems, racks, equipment, and antennas.
  • Conducting Bench Test, Pre-Installation Check Out (PICO), Pre-installation Test and Check Out (PITCO), and post-installation System Operation Verification Testing (SOVT) for Extremely High Frequency (EHF), Super High Frequency (SHF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) satellite communications systems, to include the Navy Multi-band Terminal (NMT), the Joint Tactical Terminal (JTT), Global Broadcast System (GBS), Military Satellite Systems, Commercial Broadband and Wideband Satellite systems, International Maritime Satellite (INMARSAT) system, Digital Modular Radio (DMR), and the Television Direct to Sailor (TV-DTS) system.
  • Installing and testing the Coast Guard Small Cutter Underway Data Connectivity Cellular System onboard the 65 WLR, 75 WLR, and 75 WLIC cutters, barges, and tenders.
  • Performing troubleshooting, repair, and testing of all Common Submarine Radio Room (CSRR) components and variants for the Virginia, Los Angles, Seawolf, Ballistic Missile, and Guided Missile submarine platforms.
  • Providing engineering, installation, integration, and maintenance support for the Commander, US Fleet Forces Command (CFFC) campus-wide communications infrastructure.
  • Installing, maintaining, and upgrading the US Joint Forces Video-teleconferencing (VTC) network.
  • Supporting test event planning and developing and performing tests at the Navy UHF and EHF SATCOM laboratory in Charleston, SC.
  • Completing communications systems-related Level of Repair Analyses (LORAs), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analyses, and developing Planned Maintenance System (PMS) strategies and Maintenance Index Pages (MIPs).
  • Evaluating Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
  • Providing help desk, technical assistance, troubleshooting, and operator and maintainer training support.
